Some 844,475+ candidates sat for KCPE in 2013 and 647,602 joined secondary schools making a maximum transition rate of 76.7 % which is less than the 1970 decade of 95%. Perhaps primary school population is growing faster than secondary schools are being created. Perhaps the country’s educational infrastructure planners are unawake. Perhaps there are inadequate private sector incentives as seen in treatment of private schools’ candidates at secondary school selections. However let this be another day’s story.
